COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT GUIDELINES
Thank you for thinking of me as your potential creative project! Before we meet I like to share my working style and fees upfront. Please read carefully below:
- Mural painting pricing is dependent on scale, state of the wall, any ladders or other equipment needed for height, and method of application. I start at $100/hour for most projects.
- I do not repair walls nor do I typically coordinate things like lift rentals, sidewalk closures, or communicating with neighbors if they might be impacted by closures, parking space movement etc. If you are unable to coordinate these things, I am willing to but will require a Project Management fee (usually $150/hour of project management)
- There are three ways to work with community that I can do one OR both of!:
- We can involve the community in the creation process of the mural design. This can look like a series of workshops, classroom visits, or community meetings. I organize these to strategically get us to the point of finding a unifying idea for a design. I do not copy community members artworks to create a design but will use the input of community members to inform a final design. My minimum for community input would be a maximum of 5 sessions with community members or classroom visits and at least 3 weeks of time for me to synthesize the input gathered to create a final design. I offer 1 round of revisions to a submitted sketch with subsequent revisions at an additional fee. Additional details can be discussed in subsequent messages or meetings.
- We can involve the community in the creation of the mural itself! This could look like me creating the design and hosting community paint days. I offer a maximum of 3 sessions of community painting (maximum of 3 hours per session) onto wall or mural cloth with 4-6 weeks of time to touch up and refine the final mural. Additional details can be discussed in subsequent messages or meetings.
- We can do both community input and community painting. Each process requires logistical time, planning, and preparation so please expect a discussion of fees in accordance with each of these separate roles.
- Artwork and conception sketches must be ultimately owned by me.
- Sketches or concept work are only provided after a signed agreement is secured.
- A deposit of $50 must be fulfilled prior to meeting in person or virtually to go over proposals and sign a contract with a timeline (if appropriate)**
- Materials are included in the pricing in addition to labor and is dependent on the state of the wall, location (indoor/outdoor) and any prepping or priming that might be necessary.
- Lift or scaffolding rental can be incorporated but a separate project management fee will need to be discussed if the client is not going to/able to coordinate lift or scaffolding rental.
